Day 8… After late night with The Bike Lovers Crew I decided to find what was left of the great era of Velodrome racing in Mallorca. I was not so bothered by the new objects like Palma Arena built in 2007 for World Championships, I was in search of some history. I was far more interested in finding some outdoor velodromes in mallorca. I took on the role of detective & together with a bit of mapping & local knowledge from Dan, I tried to locate a bit of the past. In total I managed to locate 6! Not bad for small island in the Med, obsessed with cycling. They were understandably spread out, so an early start was the order of the day. The six unlikely suspects are Son Moix , Sta Maria and Algaida, Sineu, Se Salines and Sortint de Campos. In total I clocked up around 90km, it was a fun day as I was on a bit of a mission. First one still in really good condition build around 1987, then one in Algaida my personal favourite (to get inside you need to climb the fence!). It’s an amazing construction, you can get a real feel for the atmosphere of the place. The last one I got to was completely run down, in the middle of the island in Santa Maria.
